computer not working|Why isnt the sound on my computer working?

Q&A–: Why isnt the sound on my computer working?
I recently got my computer back from a store that removed all the viruses on it. However the sound does not work anymore. The speakers light is on indicating that it is plugged in. I checked the drivers and they all say that they are working properly. I also made sure that nothing was on mute. Any suggestions?

Make sure you got it plugged into the right jack. It is easy to plug it into the mic jack instead.

click on the picture of the speakers on your tool bar. It may be muted.

Your sound card inside your pc may have become loose in transport from the store maybe?
Otherwise just check all of your sound drivers on, (control panel, hardware and sound, sound) Try playing come music and then check the driver volume on the right hand side, if the sound is playing, but none of the drivers are recognizing it, its most probably a problem with your sound card.

This happened to me once. I had my computer rebuilt and for years I had no sound. I thought the geek forgot to install a sound card. Turns out, I didn’t plug the speakers into the correct port (audio out). Hope it’s that simple. Good luck!

Start with the basics, first unplug all speaker wires, and replug them. Making sure that you didn’t somehow plug a speaker into a mic etc.
Make sure if they speakers connect to each other they are doing so properly.
Do not just look at the connections, actually pull them out and reinsert even if they are right as this will make sure that they aren’t loose or somehow obstructed.
Next go into device manager and delete your driver for your speakers. Restart the computer and test.
If this has not worked, then there is definitely an issue. Next we try and substitute the speakers with a different computer to try and pin point where the issue lies. If the speakers still do not work, I would diagnose the speakers have gone bad and would replace.
If they do work, I would shut down the computer, Open the the computer case, then uninstall and reinstall the sound card. This is not hard at all as it just slides out and back (resembling the connection of an old nintendo game to the console).
If the sound still does not work after reboot, we need to make sure of one more thing. See if there is an additional slot to try the sound card. After trying, if the card works then your slot is bad. And I would suggest to just not use it. There are other cheaper and easier ways to get sound then either trying or paying for someone to fix this for you.
Now if the card is again not working in either slot, or you have not other slot available to test with, I would try and replace the sound card.
Leave the case open start up the computer see if there is any luck.
I would be wary of my warranty though, as this may possibly void any manufacturers warranty you might have. In which case if you do have them fix the sound card.

Question–: what kind of dangers exist if i use my computer when the fan is not working?
My computer fan stopped working however the computer works I put an ordinary fan out side the CPU and I can’t smell any burning or so. Is there a big danger?

Yeah, your comp can overheat and it can fry your system. There shouldn’t be any danger to you, though you should replace your fan once you are able in order to protect your computer.

Yes, you are blowing air in, the fan pulls hot air out….spend the $ 10.00 and replace the fan in 30 seconds.

it’s a big danger for your computer. Don’t be cheap and buy your self a new fan for your computer. The heat sink itself will not compensate for all the heat your computer is getting. This will be a big problem in the long run.

You will fry the motherboard and numerous chips plus the power supply. Turn it off and get a new fan — they only cost a coulple bucks.

You probably won’t have too much trouble if you are not doing anything to intense with it and you keep the side cover off with a fan blowing on it. I would use it as little as possibe till you get yourself a new fan. There are cheap.

So is the fan that has stopped working your CPU fan? if so I would stop using your computer and think about replacing the CPU fan before you have to pay for another CPU.

which fan ? the one on the power supply or the one on the cpu?
either way somthing is going to get damaged….either the power supply will over heat and fail or the cpu will do the same….get it fixed NOW ….a new fan is about $ 20, a new cpu can be $ 100′s…just to make it really clear—–you WILL damage your computer if you do nothing..

Not an excessive danger. So long as your CPU and hard drives don’t get too hot, it shoudln’t matter. Even if they do, most computers will just automatically shut down the computer when they start getting to hot.

I had a server computer which kept working pretty well for a couple of weeks before it started to deteriorate and ultimately fried.
