    This is the studio’s main audio workstation. Just thought I’d post this as I’m about to redesign it. I’ve had several weeks to tinker with Rainmeter and I’ve got some new setup ideas :]

    - – -

    I use 2 monitors, a very large primary monitor and a smaller secondary monitor off to one side . . nestled amongst audio gear [hence the different resolutions :]

    The top and bottom bars are always visible, unless I’m working in certain programs and don’t want to be distracted. I tend not to need acres of screen real estate when using Firefox, so I find it more productive to have instant visual access to all the computer folders and functions I use on a day to day basis, which has definitely been achieved here!

    I use Launchy to launch apps and documents, and in conjunction with NirCmd to email, tweet, shutdown monitors, open and close DVD trays, append items to my ToDo list on 2nd monitor, send the contents of my clipboard to a predesignated text file, speak aloud the contents of my clipboard [more handy than it sounds :] and to perorm fast indexed file searching through Everything!

    I also use Strokeit mouse gestures for just about everything! 20k+ gestures in 4 weeks use!!!

    I built 2 little docks to either side of my clock in attempt to be rid of ObjectDock! They fade in and jump to the front on mouseover, and launch my most accessed folders. I use Standalone Stacks to launch a stack on right click for superfast folder browsing, left click opens the same folder in explorer for flexibility!

    The list on the right of the 2nd monitor is the ToDo list that is appended to by Launchy. It takes me 2 or 3 seconds to quickly add an idea or reminder for myself, without leaving the program I’m using or breaking my mental flow.

    The background image on the 2nd monitor I made to give myself some visual boundaries for icons. The area at the top [above the birds :] is for my current projects. The area in the middle is for random crap that I need to sort out! I turned off icon arranging to give a more of a messy floor look :]

      on the first moment, i thought you took a picture of your monitor with a camera because the central clock looks exactly like my power button ;P

      i think it’s an extremely beautiful desktop. sadly, i don’t own a monitor huge enough to give me enough real estate to place such an awesome bar ;P

      how did you program it to have one function when you left click while another with a right click? really really interested at your setup!

      oh yes i just tried strokeit, but i found gmote better in some ways (slightly more versatile since it can accept any mouse gestures) so maybe you might want to try it..!

      (p.s. how did you get a horizontal version of your wallpaper? i can’t seem to find it >.>)

      @edstorm77

      Glad you like it!

      With the left and right click, it’s just a matter of assigning the actions to your meter. If you already have a code line for the left click, something like:

      LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute ["C:"]

      . . you could just add:

      RightMouseDownAction=!Execute ["E:Program FilesCCleanerCCleaner.exe"]

      . . or something similar. A very simple icon might look like this:

      [Iconstorm77]
      Meter=IMAGE
      ImageName=Drive.png
      X=0
      Y=0
      W=50
      H=50
      AntiAlias=1
      LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute ["C:"]
      RightMouseDownAction=!Execute ["E:Program FilesCCleanerCCleaner.exe"]

      @taipan_snake

      Cheers! In regards to start killer, I think I did try it a little while ago. I kind of saw this as a more elegant solution than installing yet another program . . I have my little trick to stop command prompt boxes appearing, and it runs so fast on startup I never even see it . . . Does start killer eat any memory?

    11. Red Black Production Says:

      @taipan_snake

      I’m meant to be using this beast solely to edit music on, so I’m kind of a resource nazi! Most guys I know run with the Win98 look and no desktop background! Gross.

      I’d actually be quite curious to know how much memory people’s desktop setups are using . . . .

    12. Red Black Production Says:

      I finally replaced the functionality of Objectdock, which was eating about 20M. My whole setup here is using about 25M. 10 for Rainmeter, 11 for Launchy and 5 for CAD.

      Nice desktop btw where did you get the rainmeter taskbar [Rectangle Black colour] ?

    14. Red Black Production Says:
      July 18th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

      @The.Private.Reserve

      Cheers!

      hmm, do you mean the whole taskbar at the bottom? Or just the taskbar graphic itself?

      The taskbar graphic I made, the Rainmeter functionality I either made or modified from another skin . . . it’s all detailed in my description above . . .

      Hope that answers your question :]

    15. The.Private.Reserve Says:
      July 18th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

      The bottom taskbar, how you create that big taskbar [Bottom] ?

    16. Red Black Production Says:
      July 18th, 2011 at 5:26 pm

      @The.Private.Reserve

      I made the big taskbar, in Rainmeter and Photoshop!

      The taskbar is a graphic I made in Photoshop, and there a re about 15 different Rainmeter ‘skins’ running on top of it . . .

      Head over to the Rainmeter forums if you’re interested in creating your own Rainmeter setup :]

      Cheers!
