it is possible to beep if a certain motherboard is defective? are memory, video card only give an error beep code if they are defective? how about if the motherboard or processor or powersupply is defective, its possible to give an error beep code when they are defective? my computer boots ok and goes to dektop, after a minute or an hour it hangs, the keyboard hangs and the mouse even the desktop hangs too and it gives a very long continues beep code, whats the problem wth my computer, is it motherboard? power supply?, or memory? pls answer all my questions, thnx…..

It’s probably the cpu overheating. Check your cpu fan. It maybe broken or jammed. Open your casing then switch on the computer. Check wether the fan is working or not. If not, fid a replacement for it.

Different computer manufactures have different beep codes. Check you manual or the manufactures website to get a list of beep codes. It may be just a lose connector or your battery for the BIOS needs to be replaced.

i agree with muffer, this sounds like a memory error…either there is some sort of hardware memory address issue here or memory is just bad. First, have you installed any new drivers lately? Especially video? If so, then uninstall and reinstall them. Second, download and burn memtest86 to a bootable media. Boot into the program and run for a few hours. If it comes back with a ton of errors, then you need new memory.

Question–: where do i start troubleshooting my computer for a fried motherboard?
i knew better, but i tried connecting a rs-232 cable to my serial port without shutting down the computer, and i couldn’t get the device working, so i unplugged it, and when that happened, the computer died. i’m not getting any power to the motherboard, but i’m not sure if that’s just because the motherboard is fried. is it possible that i fried the power supply? is it likely that i fried just the motherboard, or the cpu as well? should i test the power supply first? i need help. thanks.

plug in the PC, don’t have to turn it on; most all motherboards have an LED on it that light up if they are getting power, if it lights up and it doesn’t boot, it could be the Mother Board. If the light does not light up I would start with the power supply.
