Q&A–: why my computer after pluggin in the network cable not answers any comands and the hard disk isn’t working
My computer working with network cable plugged only few minutes; after that the system crashes and i have to reboot by cutting of the power. my computer it is a laptop dell inspiron 1520 and my OS is windows xp profesional sp2 student verison. this problem started after my OS made updates online.
The following is the answer: (Hint: For answers, no site audit.)

It sounds like you might have some damaged or corrupt operating system files. If you have your original install disk I’d suggest trying a built in utility called System File Checker. It will scan your system and if any bad files are located you’ll be prompted to insert your CD and new files will be extracted. The scan could take over an hour.
Click start > run > type in SFC /SCANNOW > click OK. (Note the space between sfc and /scannow.) These articles give more information.

If SFC doesn’t fix the problem you might have to resort to a Repair Install of the XP. You won’t lose any personal settings or installed programs but you will have to reinstall any Windows Updates that came out after your install CD was made (including an Service Packs not on the CD.) This article gives screen shots of what you will see. NOTE: The article twice warns that you will get a screen prompt to press any key to continue and you should NOT press any key. Heed the warning or the Repair Install will not work!!

After a Repair Install, you will have to visit the Windows Update site. The updates may not work because of some Microsoft changes late in 2007. This Microsoft article explains what to do if updates won’t work.
