It’s really depends. You can try steps from my website for winxp: go to onsiteone (dot) com, then go to the do-it-yourself main link, then look for winxp manual system restore. If that doesn’t work or if you have a Vista or Win7 system it may be more involved like an hour job. Sometimes you get that error due to the hard drive mechanically failing – and so a new hard drive would need to be purchased and all programs and devices reinstalled, which is a big job. Hope this gives you some pointers.

How much will it cost to fix it in total?

I’m some what of an intermediate computer user and did everything you mentioned in the video except for finding the “necessary folder” that has the latest restore point file that I need to copy to the bad hard drive. I just need to know “what folder” and the “name of the file” to look for and copy…I’ve been searching literally all day and have come up with nothing…I’m hoping you see this sometime soon and can respond quickly. Thanks again for your help!

I’ve had this problem before (i want to do it myself this time)… would buying a new hard drive to replace the old fix this (mine is old and outdated anyways)? would I need the recovery disk when replacing it or do they come with a new disk?
If that doesn’t work where do you find the cable you used?

You’re right, but then I would need to backup her data, reinstall Windows, programs, transfer back her data, install her devices, etc. Charging $80 per hour, she’s probably glad I did the quick fix instead. =) Sometimes the best fix is not always the BEST fix, but should be the most cost-effective one for the client.
