Q&A–: How do I fix a keyboard failure WITHOUT Windows XP installed?
I just got a Dell not too long ago, and it does have Windows XP installed. Now when I start up my Dell, and try to go to the setup menu, it doesn’t read the keyboard and will say “Keyboard Failure” and “Recent Hard Drive Failure.” Any help?

Try a USB keyboard.

Make sure you have the keyboard plugged into the correct jacks and haven’t accidently swapped the keyboard with the mouse. If you have a wireless key board you may have a bad battery or need to resync .

The first troubleshooting step is to always check the physical connections. Make sure everything is plugged in properly. I’ve built 3 computers and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve plugged something in wrong and spent 3 hours trying to fix it before I realized that I just needed to plug it in correctly. Check and double check.
If everything is plugged in correctly and this is a brand new Dell, then you’ve got a big problem. A brand new computer shouldn’t have problems like this. You should take it back to whomever sold it to you, and ask them to fix it.
It sounds like you’re trying to install Windows XP, which makes me think that this is probably not a brand new computer. There are only two things that would cause a “Recent Hard Drive Failure.” Either the hard drive is not installed correctly, or it actually failed recently. Hard drive installation can be easy, or it can be messy. If you know someone who has installed a hard drive before, I would ask them for help. It can be very difficult to describe in a short message like this.
A hard drive failure might also mean that someone turned off the computer without shutting it down, or the hard drive is just old. If someone turned off the computer without shutting it down, then you might not have much trouble. If the hard drive is old, then you need a new one.
Good luck, I hope this helps.

windows xp failure–: Windows XP failure to launch?
Windows XP wont start and on the screen it says we apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully a recent hardware or software change might have caused this if your computer stopped responding restart it unexpectedley or was automatically shutdown to protect your files and folders choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that work if a previous start attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed or if you arent sure what caused the problem choose start windows normally.Other things like safe mode and other stuff come up and I click on them but the computer restarts again and goes right back to this same screen. This happened while the computer was shutting down and I backed my chair and hit the cord out of the outlet while it was shutting down.Im wondering what happened and how I can fix this.Thank You

Though XP is very good at not loosing data from power failures….during shutdown is a vulnerable time for the system….you basically have two options…
Try to boot in safe mode, this is done by repeatedly pressing F8 after pressing the power button.
If that won’t let you boot your machine insert your XP disc and select “repair” this will make sure that all of the files necessary for XP to run are in good shape and it won’t delete your personal data
