    windows xp failure–: Registery File Failure in Windows XP?
    After I turn on the computer, I get a blue screen saying “STOP: c000218 {Registry File Failure}
    The registry cannot load the hive (file):
    \systemroot\system32\config\SOFTWARE

    And it does a physical memory dump.
    I can’t get into Windows at all, even through safe mode, or anything. And I don’t have a recovery or xp boot cd or anything like that. What can I do? Is there somewhere I can burn a boot cd?

    In order to repair/restore the Registry Hives, you’ll need to get into the Windows Recovey Console. This is accomplished either by booting from the Windows Xp CD, or pressing F8 at startup to access the boot menu.

    I would focus on obtaining a Windows XP CD, or getting into the recovery console by pressing F8 at startup.

    Here is a website which describes the registry hives:

    Best of luck with the recovery.

    if u don’t have those cd’s, i’m afraid u r in trouble
    check ram or vga but i think u need at least to use the boot cd to get to the recovery console
    keep me posted

    It sounds as if you are not even reaching Windows.

    You should enter the BIOS setup upon startup and disable the floppy drive and see if you can boot properly that way.

    Generally you enter the BIOS by pressing the delete key when you first start your computer.
