Help!: Computer virus?
Rainy:The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!
Ok so my parents computer has a backdoor trojan virus. So far they have had few problems with it. THey just keep getting porn pop ups and other things saying they have a critical system error. THey can access all website just fine and their speed is not too much slower. My question is…..what can they do to get rid of the trojan? Is there something that can be done at home inexpensiivly? THe computer shop said they can repair it for around 75.00. What should they do? THey only use the computer for emailing. THey never buy anything online or do online banking or anything like that. Is this virus something that needs taken care of ASAP or is it more of an inconvience?

Register, go to the Hijack This Forum, read the instructions on how to post a log, give a brief description of your problem (like you’ve just typed) and post your log there. The guys in there are fantastic and trustworthy and will guide you through in getting rid of anything nasty from your computer. Good luck!

You can format and reinstall windows, or some computers will have an option for restoring the computer to the way it was when you bought it.
I would try a free online virus protector to see if it can clean it out for you.

go to www.download.com and find one antivirus for free, download, install, scan the machine. If you are not shure if the program removed the virus, write down the name of the troyan, go to www.mcafee.com and find that virus information. Read and do the way to remove manually.

it doesn;t sound like a virus,,more like spywear,,,download spybot search and destroy,,its free,,and scan the computer,,any problems that are there it will find them and fix them.good luck.

try using a good anti virus or a trojan spyware killer…..there are many available for free….try www.download.com
and if everything fails……then simply format the system

it would help if you had said what virus the computer has, but since you didn’t my only suggestion would be go to these sites:
http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm this one is from microsoft designed to scan and fix your computer. if that doesn’t kill it try this one:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm
either one of these sites should wipe it clean.
when you get it removed get a good virus scanner and protection software.
if you can’t afford one here is a good one for free:

Hi, backdoor trojan can be eliminated using any good AntiVirus software like Norton,Macafee. If u dont have any antivirus and dont want to buy one then there is a very powerfull small software called “SpyBot” which is free of cost and it will eliminate many more trojens, spywares, porn cookies etc…
u can download it from their website www.spybot.info or from downloads.com

i had the same problem, i called technical support of my on line Internet provider and they suggested that go to lavasoft.com and download the anti virus software package. The cost was minimal 7.00 a month for three months for use of one month or you could purchase it for 99.00 for a year. I really like it and it got rid of the virus. I hope this is helpful to you. Sounds like what I had, a smitfraud browser hijacker, my virus scanner captured trojans coming in and my screen background was changed in a red warning sign saying I had spyware.
I got a spyware removing tool (carefull what you download use a site like c-net or tucows to get virus free software) installed and ran it (it takes a long time to scan and wants to reboot a couple of times)
Then I still had the red background wich can be removed with a rightclick on the screen (that worked now before the software blocked it) and choosing the advanced tab.
ps. If this was not at all what your infection was maybe someone else recognises it.

I had smae problem.. Goto http://www.download.com download AVG anti-virus its free and will get rid of the virus.It worked for me.
