Seems like a perfect business model – create the problem, charge for the solution.

yes i really do

You never know, anything is possible.

It’s actually a terrible business model. Short term gain, long term loss.
I mean, there are more than one antivirus company, and if they all make antivirus products for only their particular breed of virus, then no one’s antivirus program would work even remotely effectively.
To put it in a different perspective, that’d be like medical companies giving everyone Smallpox so you’d have to go buy the smallpox vaccine, which I’m certain there are laws against.
Now this doesn’t include fake antivirus programs like Antivirus 360 and MS Antivirus. Those are almost EXACTLY what you described and are definitely scams.

Wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened in this world. That’s freaky to think about though. Really messed up.

Yea kinda like fire fighters starting fires for job security. I wouldn’t be surprised.

& dont forget gov’t agencies who have viruses to protect important software from hackers.
Answer by Claymore
unfortunately, it is possible.
How come every time my anti-virus is about to expire they find a new virus on my computer?Every time.
Answer by blatantly opinionated
I’ve often thought the same thing…Like the glass repairman who drives around at night and throws bricks through windows….or the local mortician who…

Hey, I thought about that, too. You know how there is always going to be someone who is going to turn against their own company and what not. They use those information to make more money out of it, right? I think so. *SIGHS* sucks, because we have so many bad people in this world.

“Is is possible”
Entirely and quite probable.

It sounds very probable. I mean, this whole Ghostnet thing could just be a marketing tool to make people buy anti-virus software, I really doubt a a lot of these are made by people for fun, I mean there can’t be that many ass holes out there. :p

i once had that in mind but alot of ppl said no. but it may be a good idea. but most of them are hackers that try to steal your data.

I have suspected this for some time.

Yes, but not the way you think. Most computer viruses never see the light of day. Anti-virus application makers look out for vulnerabilities and weaknesses in computer programs and systems. They try to anticipate problems by working out how a new virus could work, and preparing a fix for such a virus before someone makes it and spreads it.

Sure they do.

Well, 20 of your forum members think it is possible or even likely.
I think NOT for the following TWO reasons::
(1st) Whenever ANYTHING aopears on the web an automatic listing of where the message is sent from and the IP address (in numbers only of course) of the sender is recorded on the hard drive and appears in print under “SOURCE” It has to or the computer hard drive would not work
Any computer sceience guru (the police have dozens of them tracing porn stuff right down to the guy’s back door and into his house and down the hall to the very machine that sent the stuff in the first place.
Now when I say “stuff” it could either be good stuff or bad. It doesn’t matter. THERE IS A TRAIL.
That is why it is already known where this conficker and other bad stuff comes from but they can’t get into that country as the bad guys have set up amazing side-tracks and routes that are impossible to follow in Russia or Libya or wherever they have found the traces.
In the western world or UK, Australia, U.S.A. or Canada it would be easy to trace since governments there are fully co-operative. In other countries it is not so easy.
So if a genuine software developer like Norton or McAfee or AVG or Kapersky or Avira were to take part in a scheme that would injure our computers you can well imagine the result when such culpability was discovered.
I just cannot imagine anyone taking such a risk and if they did, here is my SECOND reason.
(2nd) The source of virus and malware is a very professional and high-tech company, set up for only one reason, to steal information and money. And it would only take ONE employee with a speck of decency or conscience to blow the whistle on the whole operation.
He or she could do it anonymously with absolutely NO chance of his being caught. A simple message given to a foreign visitor, asking that visitor to wait until he got to Paris or New York or anyplace before sending a sim;e e-mail from a street kiosk and saying the following:
To CBS or NBC or NY Times or BBC : The following persons living in Mashibenia whose e-mail is mahal.desu@ghabon.TN has devised a spyware access virus to hack into any server or site and access all passwords, account numbers and financial balances.
For your information. A former employee gave this info to me. XXX
I may be wrong but those are my thoughts. Is anyone with me?
