Hi,I did the following:
Help!: Can somebody breakdown the different Web Server technologies real simple like?

Rainy:The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!
Hey guys…thanks for your responses to my last question about LAMP.
I’m definitely leaning towards LAMP but how does this compare to say ASP and Microsofts Net Framework?
What about Java and JSPs?
What about Python, Perl and stuff like that?
IOW, when is it advantageous to NOT use LAMP?
Thanks in advance!
The following is the answer:

Lamp is fundamentally tied to linux. From here on in when I say lamp, I mean Linux+opensource webserver+opensource database+php/perl/python. The implementation details don’t matter as much as you might think in the grand scheme of things.
The problem with LAMP, is that sometimes you do not have the luxury of running linux. Often your corporation will be in some way tied to windows boxes, and rather than jumping through hoops it may be easier to just implement the thing in asp.
Asp.NET is not a bad system and its not the stealing pile that plain old asp was. There’s a learning curve, but its not so bad if you already know java.
JSP and J2EE are rarely used outside of large corporate sites because they are complicated messy and notoriously annoying. Businesses seem to like them because supposedly it makes it easier to build large complicated multi-tiered applications which I personally think is a load of cahoony.
The moral of the story is: as far as simple and stable goes, LAMP is the way to go. If you insist on using rails, you have to start mucking around with Mongrel and such so I won’t get into that here. Otherwise, the LAMP stack is simple, well developed and fairly easy to use. Use it unless you have a good reason not to.
