    Q&A: have any companies used consumer behaviour theories for commercial gain?

    Have any companies used consumer behaviour theories (for example theories relating to ‘self image’ and ‘motivation’) for commercial gain?

    I’m particularly interested in relating it to online, eg companies utilising the technology and/or habits web 2.0 (so blogging, rss feeds etc) has created.

    Eg it could be argued that people keep blogs to satisfy a need for self expression or as a means of enhancing others perception of them (eg by big-noting themselves in their blog).

    I’m aware that blog sites essentially did this which in turn gave them advertising based revenue models. But I was hoping there may be an example of a company capitalising on users ‘need’ to express themselves on blogs etc, as opposed to the blog host the

    Yes. I am actually taking a class on it. What else are they supposed to use it for? It is a very integral part of advertising and marketing. Why don’t you try researching it yourself instead of asking people to do your work for you?
