RealityServer is a powerful web platform that enables the development of interactive, incredibly photorealistic 3D web applications, which can be compute-intensive
Fremont, Calif. (Vocus) July 28, 2010
Penguin Computing, experts in high performance computing (HPC) solutions, today announced that Penguin Computing on Demand™ (POD), the company’s HPC-on-demand service, is the first cloud computing infrastructure to host mental images’s RealityServer 3D Web platform accelerated by NVIDIA Tesla computing processors. RealityServer users and developers can now tap the HPC-optimized POD infrastructure to speed the development and deployment of next-generation photorealistic 3D Web applications.
“RealityServer is a powerful web platform that enables the development of interactive, incredibly photorealistic 3D web applications, which can be compute-intensive,” said Tom Coull, general manager of Software and Services at Penguin Computing. “With POD – which is now optimized specifically for GPU compute workloads – mental images’s RealityServer users have access to a cost-effective, extremely powerful resource on demand, to help them innovate faster and without concern for compute infrastructure limitations.”
Penguin’s POD extends the concept of cloud computing by making optimized compute resources designed specifically for HPC available on demand. POD comprises a computing infrastructure of highly optimized Linux clusters with specialized hardware interconnects and software configurations tuned specifically for HPC. Rather than utilizing machine virtualization, as is typical in traditional cloud computing, POD allows users to access a server’s full resources at one time for maximum performance and I/O for massive HPC workloads.
“At mental images, we are dedicated to providing new technology that promotes innovation and the next generation of 3D web applications accelerated by NVIDIA GPUs,” said Randy Ochs, Vice President Sales and Business Development, North America for mental images. “We are pleased to join forces with Penguin as an ideal cloud platform for our customers using RealityServer.”
The RealityServer 3D Web platform is a powerful combination of NVIDIA Tesla GPUs and mental images’s 3D Web technology that delivers interactive, photorealistic applications over the web, enabling product designers, architects and consumers to easily visualize 3D data with remarkable realism. RealityServer is the first web services platform that enables anyone, anywhere to interact remotely with complex 3D models and environments, from any perspective and under customizable lighting conditions.
mental images, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NVIDIA Corporation, is headquartered in Berlin, Germany, with offices and subsidiaries in other locations in Europe, North America and Australia. The company is the recognized international leader in providing rendering and 3D modeling technology to the entertainment, computer-aided design, scientific visualization, architecture, and other industries that require sophisticated images.
