Question–: Creating websites with visual studio web developer?
Hi,
I’m looking to create a lighweight website which will have articles and a blog maybe. it will be a content
site which will be a resource for many users
Im not sure as to how to create the site….
should i go with PHP and MySQL or i have been told that visual studio web developer (free) and MySQL is really good for creating excellent websites.
I have tried frontpage and dreamweaver but I cant get the results that I want.
Has anyone used visual studio web developer?
Any advice on a technology to use to create a good website?

More info: My site definitely not going to be a personal site. It’ll be an informational (educational) site containing various facts related to technology. So which suits me best? A WEBSITE or A BLOG?
Moreover, can you name some of good FREE web hosting sites? (I need to try it free first before I buy my own domain. My requirements are about 1GB disk space, PHP with XML, MySQL, FTP access etc…)

A blog is just one way of laying out a website. They are geared up specifically to posting a chronological series of “posts”, typically by a single writer, but sometimes more than one. Blogs are typically very easy to set up because there are existing software and services to do it for you.
If you can do a website, it’s probably worth the effort because you can customise the structure and layout to suit your specific needs.
I’ve found Zymic.com to be a good, free web host and they meet your requirements.

Differences between website and blog:
1. A blog is like a diary in which you can write about your your personal experiences, new trends, intimate details etc. A website is more like a professional representaion of your knowledge.
2. A blog can be setup for free and can still rank high in Search Engines. Whereas a website with free hosting is highly unlikely to see any decent ranking in any Search Engine as they are considered non trustworthy by Search Engines.
3. Blog can act as an extension of a website. For example if you have a website www.aaaa.com you can have a blog like blog.aaaa.com.
In my opinion if you want to make an informational website you should go for a website as managing and presenting your content is much easier and you have a peace of mind that your information is secure on your own webhost.
My friend is using is using a webhosting company webmasterspk.com and they offer 1 Gb hosting + domain for only $ 25 per annum plus with unlimited bandwidth. I called them and the sales person sounded very cooperative. Planning on buying unlimited disk space package soon. Its cheap and will serve your purpose.
