The title of your question deserves a different answer than the one in the body. JSON and XML are two different technologies, each with their specific uses.

If you were to replace parts of your XHTML with different fragments which you retrieve through AJAX, then you might as well send it as XML, ready to be inserted into the existing body (the ML in XHTML mean the same as in XML).

If you need insert other pieces of data, well..: the J in JSON is the same as the J in AJAX, so you can imagine that it might be a good match.

XML is widely used, Json provides better request size ,; but i think both technology are still there…

    Question–: Online Translation Services?
I wonder the technology of translation services like Altavista’s Babelfish, and google’s translator. How is the algorithm, what programming language or languages is used? Is the scripting language (php, asp or whatever it is) the core language, or are there any other software working at the background? The translation may be realized by an external software and/or server, and the web scripts are used only an intermediate process between the users browser and the translation software.

What do you know about this? What do you guess about it? What do you think about it?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

For the most part they seem to do a word for word direct translation, and to do that you basically just need to look up a word in a database which can be done with almost any programming language, it’s a very simple process. The easiest way to do it would probably be to use MySQL and Ruby on Rails.

I guess it’s too complex process to state in few words. Usually the translation is at semantic level (or meaning level). i.e meaning of a sentence can’t be detrmined by individual word meanings but from logical Word Groups (group of words connected logically).

Identify each word >> group them to Logical Units>> identify the sentence structure>> map to target Languge>> generate sentence in target languge

There are many different algorithms used for this..
