BBC website uses a drag and drop functionality which allows the users to customize the web page according to their preferences.
Wanted to know which technology is being used behind this functionality. Which tools, framework, software language is used ?

The underlying technology is called AJAX (ASynchronous Javascript and XML) . They use variety of tools and frameworks to create the website. Some of the common libraries for AJAX design and programming are prototype, dojo, scriptaculous, google web toolkit and Ajax Control Toolkit. Ajax is used to give user a more responsive experience without the page making roundtrips to the server and back on every user action (traditional application design)
