Help!: What is the web-technology called that facebook uses when you post on somebody’s wall?

Rainy:The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!
When you post on somebody’s facebook wall, you see a little image that the wall post is being processed, and then it posts it without refreshing the entire page, and even moves all other wall posts lower to make room.
What is that web technology called (xhtml? java? etc.??)?
A lot of other sites use this, but that is a popular example.
